Announcements for April 30, 2015

There will be a student advisory meeting today in the Bio lab at 11:45am.

Report Card distribution will take place tomorrow.  Grade 11s and 12s will take place at 2:15 in the Library and Theatre and at 3:20 for Gr 9s and 10s, also in the library and Theatre.

A new club has started and it’s called movie club.  It’s a club for those who want to be actors.  Movie club is not where we watch movies, we make movies, play games and have lots of fun.  Please see the front link or the office if you would like to sign up.  It will begin on Monday, May 4th from noon until 1 on Mondays and Fridays.  Please see Colin Block for more details.

Please contact Mrs. Palmer if you are interested in volunteering to repaint a mural at Strathmillan Elementary School.  Volunteer hours are available.

Anyone wanting to compete in Track & Field, please meet in Gym C tomorrow at lunch.

Do you need community service hours or do you just want to make a difference in your community?
With the Spring weather now here, it is once again time for the Assiniboia Community Clean Up.
This year, there will be two clean ups hosted by MLA Jim Rondeau.  The first will take place on Monday, May 4th and again on Thursday, May 7th from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. on each day.  Students interested in volunteer hours can sign up by calling the office at 888-7722 to get more information. Clean up supplies will be provided and a bbq will follow on both dates.

All boys who signed up for outdoor soccer, there will be a practice Monday May 4  at  3:30 pm
Please change and meet outside

Announcements for April 28, 2015

Congratulations to the members of the Pipers badminton team that competed in the WWAC conference finals last week. Lily J. finished second in girls singles. Madison F. and Shaye K. finished second in girls doubles. Rachel K. and Brett A. finished second in mixed doubles and Cole Armstrong and Izzy R. were WWAC mixed doubles champions. Would these athletes competing in Provincials please see Mr. Smith immediately following announcements for a quick but important meeting.

The Intramural floor hockey league begins today. Check the schedule to see when you play this week. Every Monday morning the games are scheduled for the entire week.

A reminder, girls soccer is EVERY TUESDAY and THURSDAY at 3:45pm.  Meet just outside of gym C and be prepared for outdoor or indoor sessions.

Attention any grade 12s who would be interested in doing the Toast to the Teachers or Toast to the Parents at the grad dinner, please sign up with Ms. Gosselin by Thursday April 23rd.

Congratulations to the students for their great run of the musical Guys and Dolls.  A great show like this requires many hours from the students, staff and volunteers.  Can’t wait to see what next year brings.

Justice Wins a Week at Cadarwood Summer Camp

Winner of the Cedarwood Summer Camp Week Long Experience.
Activities include: Wake Surfing, Archery, Photography, Zip Line, Fishing, Fencing, Skate Boarding, Paintball, Swimming, Drama and Music.

Today’s forecast is calling for a White Out. Wear your whites to show your support for our Winnipeg Jets (Mrs. Rothery..not the other team ;-) ) in their first playoff game. You can also wear your white hat for a $1.00 donation. Let's show the Jets our Piper Pride Spirit. Go Jets Go!

Beach volleyball practices will start next week. Girls will practice at lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays each week and boys will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please see Mr. Goetz in Room 211 if you would still like to sign-up for Beach Volleyball.

Assiniboia Community Appreciation Night - April 28

The Assiniboia Community Appreciation Night will be held on Tuesday April 28th and John Taylor is proud to announce that both Mrs. Keri Morris and Mr. Mike Hussey will be honored for their volunteer efforts at John Taylor Collegiate.

Announcements for April 10, 2015

Just a reminder to staff and students, there will be grade level meetings held today. You will be called down to the theatre for your scheduled time.

There will a final Boys baseball tryout afterschool in gym C Friday.  Anyone interested in joining the team must be in attendance.

Would all improv students who ordered an improv shirt please bring your money to Mrs. Palmer - your shirt is waiting for you....

Anyone interested in playing beach volleyball this upcoming season is asked to put a team together consisting of two or three girls or two or three boys.  Then come see Mr. Goetz in Room 211 to sign up and to get more details when the first beach practice will be.

If any French students are interested in participating in a YMCA work exchange program and are 16 or 17 years of age this summer, please see Ms. Armistead for details.  This is an amazing opportunity.

There is another scholarship opportunity for Grade 12 students.  Together with the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Folklorama is pleased to present the Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence, an annual award of excellence for the preservation of ethno-cultural heritage.  This $1000 scholarship acknowledges students who demonstrate an active involvement in preserving their ethno-cultural heritage through volunteer work, employment or contributions to a cultural activity within Manitoba.   The application deadline is April 30, 2015.   Please see Mrs. Palmer for more details.

Mock Crash - May 20, 2015


John Taylor Collegiate Students Raising Awareness of Distracted Driving

On Wednesday , May 20th at 1:30 p.m., the students from the T.A.D.D. group at John Taylor Collegiate, located at 470 Hamilton Avenue, will be enacting a mock vehicle crash to raise awareness on the dangers of distracted driving. 

To make the event as realistic as possible, the mock crash site will utilize a damaged vehicle provided by Manitoba Public Insurance, as well as student actors from the John Taylor drama class.  

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service School Resource Unit, along with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service will be in attendance. A simulated emergency response exercise will be performed to demonstrate how quickly a tragedy can occur when drivers make the choice to utilize their phones while driving. 

Following the exercise, emergency services responders will address the student body on the importance of safe driving to prevent the wide-spread devastation and consequences that occur when drivers are distracted.

Today is National Anti-Bullying Awareness Day. Wear your Pink Shirts to stand together against bullying. Student Council will provide a special thank you to all students wearing pink tomorrow.

Anyone interested in playing beach volleyball this upcoming season is asked to put a team together consisting of two or three girls or two or three boys.  Then come see Mr. Goetz in Room 211 to sign up and to get more details when the first beach practice will be.

If any French students are interested in participating in a YMCA work exchange program and are 16 or 17 years of age this summer, please see Ms. Armistead for details.  This is an amazing opportunity.

There will be a sign up sheet for the Teddy Bear picnic volunteers in the office.  Please see Mrs Palmer if you have any questions.

Congrats to the JT members --Galen, Ashley, Emma and Sydney of the Divisional Senior Choir who travelled to New York over the break and won a Gold Medal, Adjudicator's trophy and the Outstanding Choir trophy.  Way to go!
