This is what happens when the staff decide to have their own Spirit Week...

Imagine that you walk into school and see that your teachers have their clothes on - inside out. What do you do? Some students quietly and politely approached the staff to let them know about the error. Others looked away embarrassed but some of the JT students quickly put one and one together and realized that the teachers had a plan. The halls were filled with staff who also had the inside/outside look. Students realized that they would have to use their keen eye for observation to look for patterns this week. There was a day of scarfs, wacky hair day, throw-back Thursday. Just imagine what the JT staff have planned for Friday.

JT TADD Presentation with Kevin Brooks

JT TADD Presentation with Kevin Brooks

Did you know....
that impaired and distracted driving are the leading contributing factors in fatal collisions in Manitoba.
impaired driving by alcohol, drugs or fatigue, is a factor in almost 1/3 of ALL fatal collisions in Manitoba.

In light of the seriousness of this issue TADD Manitoba has worked with the JTC TADD student group, the Manitoba School Boards Association and Manitoba Public Insurance made arrangements for Kevin Brooks to present to the students and staff at John Taylor Collegiate. Kevin spoke to the students about the dangers associated with impaired driving and the ramifications of the choices that are made. He shared his personal perspective on this issue as a survivor of an impaired driving collision. His message and insights were thought provoking. The JTC TADD students have committed to support his message by having students sign the Friends for Life Banner. This banner will be on display at the school as a constant reminder to make good decisions. In addition, the TADD group will be distributing Friends for Life cards that have phone numbers if a student needs a safe ride home. Students have been asked to complete the following questionnaire to provide feedback. The survey link is

Today staff and students will be receiving their Pay it forward Bracelet. Please remember that the bracelet on your wrist serves as a reminder to initiate kindness rather than wait for it to happen.  It is a simple reminder to help others out.  When you receive a “Thank You” for whatever you have done, remove the bracelet and ask the person to “PAY IT FORWARD.” By asking the recipient of your kindness to pay it forward, you ensure that your gesture does not stop there. Ask them to remove the bracelet and do the same for someone else.

We Day - Shawn Desman

John Taylor is excited to share about our special guest from WE DAY today. Shawn Desman visited John Taylor Collegiate to talk to the students and staff about the work they are doing as Champions of Free the Children. Last year JT participated in the We Create Change initiative and raised money for education overseas. In addition, JT hosted Spencer West and the We Create Change Tour. In doing so JT supported children overseas but also inspired other schools in the Division to take part in the cause. Shawn Desman also thanked the students for their part in this year's We Scare Hunger program which addresses the issue of hunger in Winnipeg. He recognized that all of this could not have happened without the amazing Student Council and Ms. Paragg. This year the students and staff have organized the We Scare Hunger Haunted House Food Drive for Early Years Schools in our community. By working together, and supporting each other they continue to make a difference.
