Free the Children's Adopt a Village Program

During the past two years, students from John Taylor Collegiate have been actively working to help create awareness, provide educational opportunities, and to hold fundraising initiatives in support of Free the Children's Adopt a Village Program.
An educational opportunity recently occurred when we hosted guest speaker, Muuxi Adam, to speak to our students. Muuxi shared his experiences and stories about life in a developing country, and the social changes that need to take place in order to make our global communities equitable.
Through investigation and inquiry, our students discovered that Nicaragua is the second poorest country in Central America, and that the political instability of this country has contributed to the lack of accessible education (specifically in rural communities).
This year, our students made the decision that they wanted to become more culturally proficient in their understanding of the social injustices that children in a Nicaraguan Community continue to face today.
In March, 2016, students will travel to Nicaragua to take part in grassroots development projects to empower local Nicaraguan families and improve the lives of their children. Our students will also learn about demographics, economic health, strengths, and resources while immersed in the language, traditions, and culture of Nicaragua. If you would like to know about sponsorship opportunities,or fundraising initiatives in support of our endeavour, please contact Melanie Paragg at mparagg@sjsd.net
